Eco Cooling

HOW WE CAN HELP

What is Evaporative Cooling

Evaporative cooling is the low cost, environmentally friendly alternative to costly air conditioning.

It works very differently from regular air conditioning. As water is evaporated, energy is lost from the air, reducing the temperature.

Unlike air conditioning systems that use re-circulated air, evaporative cooling systems circulate cool fresh air through a building and force out stale hot air.

Evaporative cooling works by drawing a constant flow of fresh air over water-saturated pads. As the water evaporates from the pads, it removes the heat from the air. Not only does this act as a chiller, it also filters dust and pollen from the air, ensuring a breath-easy atmosphere.

This air is cooled before being pumped into a building. Simultaneously, warm air is vented from the building, allowing the cooled fresh air to circulate inside.

Our cooling units introduce fresh, ambient air through externally mounted wetted pads.

Our EcoCooling systems feature filter pads that are kept saturated with water. An axial fan draws air through the pads, and this air is then cooled and pumped into a room via an air distribution system. The air is cooled as it loses the heat required to evaporate the water, then passed through an insect screen, ensuring that insects do not enter the cooled room. Only pure water is evaporated from the pads, and the water is drained on a regular basis to stop salts accumulating.

Installation

External Installation – The EcoCooling units are fixed to the outside of a building. The evaporative cooler acts as an inlet fan, blowing cooled air through a plenum chamber or a ducted system into the building. Roof mounted down discharge systems are typically installed using a soaker sheet to provide a weather proof finish.

Extracting the warm air – The evaporative cooling blowing cool air into the building is usually matched with an extract system. This both gives the required ventilation rate, and provides a positive or negative pressure to the building.

Complete coverage or spot cooling – Installations can provide either complete coverage or spot cooling. In energy intensive applications it is normal to cool the corridors between the machines to cool the people. The heat from the machines then rises naturally, allowing it to be exhausted.

servicing

Ensure your cooling system continues to work safely and effectively with a planned maintenance schedule.

Regular maintenance of our Eco-cooling systems is essential. This is because the systems need to be regularly serviced to eliminate the risk of a legionella outbreak. By law, companies also need to complete a legionella risk assessment (ACOP). We complete this assessment for you as part of the service.

Our specially trained engineers at Vent-Tech can service our evaporative cooling systems or those installed by other companies. So please get in touch to see how we can help your company stay cool!

An end of season service isolates the water supply to prevent freezing and sets the system to run in ventilation mode only. A pre-season service in March ensures the system is re-set and ready to be up and running over the summer months.

Regular evaporative cooling system servicing will:

Ensure your system is working correctly and effectively

Eliminate risk of legionella

Prevent build-up of algae, scale or any other unwanted substances

Identify when pads need replacing and carry out the replacement

Pre-empt any issues with the system
