It is extremely important to ensure that your business premises are correctly ventilated for your employees’ health. However, without optimal installation and regular servicing, it is possible that your system can emit excessive noise which can negatively impact employees on the premises as well as those in neighbouring buildings. At Vent-Tech we are experts in all things LEV and can provide advice and recommendations for any noise-related issues you may be having with your LEV.
What can I do if my LEV system is too loud?
If you’ve had complaints about noise from your LEV or have noticed that it is louder than it should be, then there are several ways you can reduce noise levels. At Vent-Tech we can visit your site and provide noise reduction solutions to suit your business needs.
Acoustic boxes
One option to reduce the impact of noise is an acoustic box. Acoustic boxes cover the fan and help to reduce the noise emitted. At Vent-Tech we can advise on silencers and acoustic boxes and install them as part of your extraction system.
Smaller fans
At Vent-Tech we consider the size and placement of fans wand filters when designing and installing your system. If noise is a concern, you may want to consider installing multiple smaller systems which require rather than one large system. For example, for a company with ten welding bays it may be better to split the bays into two systems of five which would then require two separate smaller fans, instead of one large fan for all ten.
Not only would this decrease noise pollution in the workplace, but it can also save energy and therefore money. Another benefit of splitting a large system into two smaller systems, is that if there is an issue, production doesn’t have to completely halt.
Correct maintenance
LEV systems can start making more noise if they aren’t regularly cleaned and maintained. By law it is recommended to have your LEV system examined and tested at least once every 14 months; however, this leaves a lot of time for something to become damaged and cause the system to not be working as well as it could be. It could also lead to a build up of dust or other particles in the fan which will impede airflow. We recommend having your LEV serviced every quarter to ensure it is working properly. This is in line with manufacturers guidance and the Buillding Engineering Services Association best practice SFG20.
